The clarinetist, Pablo Barragán is recognised for his refined sound paired with a high skill of craftsmanship, stage charisma and boundless curiosity for the programming of his performances.
Pablo trained at the Seville Conservatory with Antonio Salguero and with Matthias Glander at the Fundación Barenboim-Said in Seville. He is the winner of the Prix Crédit Suisse Jeunes Solistes in 2013, amongst other competitions.
He has worked with orchestras such as the Brucknerhaus Orchestra Linz, the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra, the Hamburg Symphony Orchestra, the Orquesta Sinfónica de Radio Televisión Española, the Slovak Philharmonic Orchestra with conductors such as Anja Bihlmaier, Thomas Dausgaard, Daniel Raiskin, and Zsolt Hamar.
Pablo is one of the most sought-after clarinettists and chamber music partners. He holds the honour of working regularly with wonderful musicians such as Elena Bashkirova, Beatrice Rana, Kian Soltani, Yuliana Avdeeva, Emmanuel Pahud, the Modigliani Quartet, the Sitkovetsky Trio, the Cremona Quartet and the Schumann Quartet. His chamber music invitations include performances at the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, the Philharmonie Köln, the Konzerthaus Dortmund, the Rheingau Music Festival, Classiche Form, the Martha Argerich Festival, the Wigmore Hall London and the Tonhalle Zurich.
In the 2024/25 season, Pablo Barragán will give several solo concerts with orchestra, including his performance with the Franz Liszt Chamber Orchestra in Kronberg with Karl Amadeus Hartmann's Chamber Concerto conducted by Barragán himself. He will perform Mozart's Clarinet Concerto with the SUK Symphony Orchestra Prague under the direction of Wilhelm F. Walz, the Biel Solothurn Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Yannis Pousporikas and the Orquesta Camerata Musicalis, with whom he will also make his debut at the Auditorio Nacional de Música. Other concert engagements include the Stadtorchester Thun, with whom he will perform Stanford's Clarinet Concerto.
His work as a chamber musician this season is in great demand and he has been invited to the Marvao Festival, the Kaposfest, the March Music Days in Ruse, the Jerusalem Chamber Music Festival, the Zwischentöne Engelberg, the Mosel Music Festival and the Schaumburg Castle Concerts. Together with Noa Wildschut and Frank Dupree, he is a guest at the Beethoven-Haus Bonn, the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, the NFM Wroclaw, the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Festival and the Nymphenburg Summer Festival. Further concerts with the Cremona Quartet will take him to l'Aquila in Italy and to Ruse with the Sitkovetsky Trio.
Pablo's curiosity and creative spirit are also reflected in the repertoire selection of his latest album "Balagan", which he created together with Noa Wildschut and Frank Dupree. This recording will be released on the Accentus label in July 2024 and focuses on works by Jewish composers of the 20th century, including Paul Schoenfield, Ernest Bloch, Claude Vivier and Darius Milhaud.
Since 2020 Pablo Barragán has been a Professor at the Barenboim-Said Academy in Seville and at masterclasses such as Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía in Madrid. He is also an artist of the Buffet Crampons clarinet manufacturer and plays an instrument of the RC Prestige model.
